Candle Magic

Candle work in process, please stop by often for new material.

In many different traditions lighting a candle is a sacred action. It expresses more than words can express. It has to do with gratefulness. From time immemorial, people have lit candles in sacred places. You may want to begin or end your day by the sacred ritual of lighting a candle on this gratefulness. Or you may want to light a birthday candle for a friend. one single guideline is all you need: Slow down and do it with full attention. - Granny Moon Goddessschool.com

My first memory of candle magick is a ghost story.  I gained my belief of seerers/tarot readers from my parents.  I would say this was in the late 50's/early 60's and dad had befriended a seerer who was not above reproach.  This woman took dad and our family for a major shifty ride.  She was married with a daughter. They lived poorly and tarot reading was a major part of their income.  Later I found out that none of us kids including mom really liked the trips to her home or really cared about her family.  I can tell you stories about this woman...Dona Cruz.

It was a normal evening at our home. The life of a farmer starts early in the morning, we had all gone to bed early.  In the middle of the night, we were woken by two of my sisters screaming.  When I woke up enough to understand what they were screaming about...they were saying that there was someone they couldn't see jumping on their bed.  Mom came in with a 7-day candle, lit it and the girls settled down and all was quiet in our home again.  The next morning everyone had already left the house except for me and mom.  Now that I think back, this was odd information that mom was sharing with me - I was only about 5 or 6 years old, but she said that Dona Cruz had passed during the evening and made a visit to our home before her way to where ever horrible people go.  Mom shared that at the same time this woman's spirit was jumping on my sister's bed, she was also invading dad's dreams.  He shared later with mom that she came to him in the night and wanted to take him with her. The candles burned and the mirrors were covered in our home for seven days.
Since that time I do not recall mom or dad turning to anyone else's assistant in healings or magick - they relied on their beliefs and handed the magick down to us, their children.

Lighting a daily candle is a ritual that helps you understand and cope with the energies of the day, whether you do it in the morning or evening.  I read somewhere that as long as you have a candle burning in your home you are never alone and I truly believe this.  Spirit is always with you.
There is much to candle magick - it's fun, it's relaxing and it is comforting to know that it works.  Candle magick is simply wishing on a candle.

I wish that I was able to create my own candles - but I can be a lazy witch at times.  I do, however, love to "candle shop".  I have two favorite places where I purchase candles:

Coventry Creations  and a local shop Next Millenneum
